So I scrape the junk off with a screwdriver, then take a wire brush to it. Funny thing, after wiring brushing, there was still a dark spot. So I took my trusty tool box dental pick to it. WHOA! This tank needs a dentist.... bad.

... and just to prove I wasn't messing with you by gluing half a dental pick to the side of the tank.... Yuck! Kinda makes me wish I'd put more tickets in that target raffle while in Reno.

I installed a 3/4" brass core plug in the brass restrictor plate. I'll be using an external bypass thermostat which will recirculate water before the radiator until it opens. This plug makes it so no coolant bypasses internally at all.

The entire back of the radiator is pretty much free except for the two cross braces the fan shroud will attach to.

In order to seal the shroud to the radiator, I needed to add some kind of seal. The shroud would be spaced about a half inch off the radiator due to the new brackets. I got this seal from Napa and it worked great.

The edge of the fan shroud provided just enough for the seal to mount. And the amount of crush to the radiator was nearly perfect.

The valve was stuck pretty good so I inserted an appropriate size screw in order to help me get it unstuck. I bit of liquid wrench helped out too.

Parts all cleaned up and ready to go back in. After assembly I decided the o-ring felt too loose, so I purchased a new one from Napa and re-assembled again. Now it feels fine and should seal.
